I started taking 5-MTHF recently and I feel as though it has made a positive impact on my mood, and energy, but not much else. I take 800 mcg of L-Methylfolate in the morning everyday and a multivitamin called Life extension two-per-day every other day. The multivitamin has the bioactive compounds of the b-vitamins, like methylcoblamin, but not folate, instead it uses the folate from lemon peel extract. I have never noticed any positive effects of taking the multivitamin, but now that I started taking 5-MTHF I've noticed that my multivitamin gives me energy and boosts my mood after I take it.
One of the positive effects of this supplement I've noticed is its effect on my sleep. I now sleep deeply for only 6-7 hours and if I try to fall back asleep I'll only be able to get into REM sleep which gives me some crazy vivid dreams. Unfortunately, due to my chronic fatigue I usually cannot get up after 6-7 hours of sleep, but if I do I'm not very sleepy during the day whereas at my baseline getting up after 6-7 hours of sleep I'd be yawning and trying to keep my eyes open all day.
I should note that I've been taking Cordyceps for more than 2 weeks before I added 5-MTHF to the mix so it could be that cordyceps is greatly influencing this effect.
Could it be that I have a 5-MTHFR mutation? Or does L-Methylfolate supplementation benefit everyone? I guess a blood test is the only way to find out.
