Does modafinil enhance your cognition?

I'm wondering because I've tried both 100 mg and 200 mg and it did not improve my cognition at all. I had no improvement in memory, learning, focus, problem solving, or anything really. I just get some wakefulness and it's quite weak. I still have to drink a cup of coffee to feel fully alert.

Anyone else have a different experience? What kind of effects do you notice from modafinil?

Modafinil is an eugeroic medication used to manage narcolepsy. It's not a nootropic, nor should it improve cognition. It keeps you awake, that is all. It's a selective dopamine reuptake inhibitor with some involvement in the histaminergic system. A nootropic is a substance which can improve cognition in unhealthy and healthy people alike, with little to no side effects or addiction risks, that's a definition of a nootropic. Afinils carry side effects, more potent ones pose minor addiction risks (e.g. armodafinil), and they're not proven to enhance cognition in healthy people, this can only be said about people suffering from narcolepsy...

I ordered some 200mg Modafinil pills from MOSPharma. I may get them this week and will report what effects it has on me. Fladrafinil was useless for me, but not sure if the product was the real stuff.

Adrafinil in general seems to have mixed response rates, not sure about fladrafinil. I personally find 200 mg of modafinil is too much. Side effects are a lot more noticeable at that dose and the benefits don't seem to increase. Actually, the opposite happens, I guess I become a bit overstimulated on that dose because sustained attention is pretty non-existent.

As per evidence and experiences, Modafinil enhances cognition.

I think the main reason why people consider modafinil a nootropic is that it can improve productivity, like caffeine, and with little side effects.

Personally, I think modafinil is a pseudo-nootropic in that it helps cognition indirectly through either wakefulness or stimulation. On the other hand, it seems to also impair creativity so it's definitely not suited for everyone.

I got some wakefulness from it but that was pretty much it. It's been a few years since I last took it though.

Galaxyshock Same, I never understood how some people find modafinil to enhance their cognition and productivity. Even the wakefulness effect is quite weak for me and I still have to take caffeine, high doses like coffee, to get just a sub-optimal level of wakefulness.

Increasing the modafinil dose does nothing for wakefulness nor does it give more benefits. Actually, quite the opposite. Cognition actually worsens for me with higher doses and I feel an unpleasant stimulant effect in the body but not the mind.

I find 100 mg to be more than enough.
